Mesmerising Mekong at Anantara, The Palm, Dubai

Mekong is probably by far one of the best dining experiences I’ve had here in Dubai. A small group of us went for dinner there for a friends birthday. From the moment I booked, up until arrival, I knew we were in for a treat.

Firstly, it’s located in a stunning hotel called the Anatara on the east crescent of the Palm Jumeirah. From outside the restaurant one might think they’ve been transported to Asia. The building alone with it’s oriental roof, red elephants and cleverly placed tuk tuks is impressive on it’s own. Although as soon as you enter through the giant red doors you will be gobsmacked by how much detail went into the interior. To get to our table alone we had to cross over a lily pond by stepping stones.

They also have private dining areas should you wish to choose a more intimate setting for a small group for that extra special evening. IMG_3660_2

Our well spoken and ever so sweet waitress provided first class service from the moment we arrived until the time we left. As we were seated we noticed a birthday card and a personalized happy birthday message on the table. Such a nice touch.

We placed our order and not long after a complimentary appetizer plate arrived on our table. The appetizer plate consisted of beetel leaves, peanuts, limes, garlic, chili, red onion, dried herbs and a jam. This acts as a natural palate cleanser and it is a tradition in many Asian countries, more specifically Thailand.

For mains I had the stir fried pork belly which was bursting with flavor. My friend had the sweet and sour chicken which comes very cleverly presented in half a pineapple. All of the main dishes are served with the option of unlimited white or black rice. We also had a side of buk choy and some siu mai dumplings which we asked to be brought out with the mains.

Once we were done with our mains they brought out the personalized blueberry cheesecake which I pre ordered over the phone. It was so divine, rich creamy and fruity and delicate. A beautiful ending to a gorgeous meal.
